Cookies
The short version
We set cookies for three things: keeping you signed in, remembering what is in your basket, and letting you see an order you placed as a guest. That is all.
We do not use advertising cookies, we do not share anything with advertising networks, and we do not run a third-party analytics script. There is nothing here that follows you around the internet, which is why you have not been shown a consent banner — under UK law strictly necessary cookies do not require consent.
Cookies we set
These are all strictly necessary. Blocking them will stop parts of the site working.
| Name | Purpose | How long |
|---|---|---|
| sb-…-auth-token | Keeps you signed in to your account. Set by our authentication provider on our own domain, and readable only by our server. | Until you sign out |
| romanys_cart | Identifies your basket when you are not signed in. Contains a random token only — no products, no prices and nothing about you. | 30 days |
| romanys_orders | Lets you view an order you placed as a guest on this device. Contains only the reference of your most recent orders. | 60 days |
All three are httpOnly, which means JavaScript running in your browser cannot read them, and they are marked SameSite=Lax so they are not sent when another website links to us.
Things stored in your browser
Two small preferences are kept in your browser’s local storage rather than in a cookie. They never leave your device and are never sent to us.
- Your VAT display preference — whether prices show inclusive or exclusive of VAT, set using the switch at the top of the page.
- Your recent searches — the last few things you searched for, shown when you click into the search box.
You can clear both at any time through your browser’s “clear site data” option, and the site will carry on working without them.
Third parties
When you pay by PayPal you are taken to PayPal’s own website to approve the payment. PayPal sets its own cookies there, governed by its own policies, and we have no control over or visibility of them. We receive only confirmation that the payment succeeded.
If we ever add a live chat provider, its script will only load when you open the help panel — not on page load — and this page will be updated to list what it sets before it goes live.
Controlling cookies
Every browser lets you see, block and delete cookies through its settings. Because the cookies here are the ones that make the site function, blocking them will mean you cannot stay signed in or keep a basket between pages.
If you would like to know more about how we handle personal information generally, see our privacy policy. If anything here is unclear, email sales@romanys.uk.com.
